They say that at 50, 50% of that age group has it. Why does no one admit it if it's so prevalent?

No one wants to admit it because of the ignorant people in the world. You can not die from herpes but many people think that you can. Someone who I thought was a close friend proved her ignorance to me and said that I was slowly killing men with my disease. That comment hurts me to this day. I am upset with the man that gave it to me but I am not vindictive.

Its not anywhere near 50%, but it is very prevalent. In the US, about 25% of adult women have herpes 2, and 20% of adult men have herpes 2. However, about 75% of the people that have herpes do not know they have it! It is asymptommatic in about oa third of the peple that have it, and symptoms are so mild as to be misdiagnosed or unnoticable in another third that have it. That is why you don't see people acepting it or admitting it - because they truly don't know they have it in most cases. It is only the 25% that do have the virus or so that know they have the virus that would be in a position to talk about it. So you have 25% of 25% of women = 6% of the US population that has the virus AND knows they have it. This leads people to think it is relatively rare.

One of the most important thing you should know about genital herpes is that it is very common. If you have genital herpes you're not alone. Almost 50 million Americans have genital herpes—that's 1 out of every 5 people. Also, while there is no cure for genital herpes, there are treatment options available.

there are people who have herpes who have no signs of it. Although the symptoms may be dormant this does not mean that you won't pass herpes on to your partners. Also, because there is no test to see if you have herpes unless testing a sore specifically, many people without symptoms don't even know that they have it. And for people who do know, its embarassing and they may not want to admit it to their partners, although this is very dishonest, it is very common.

Many people are unknowingly carriers of the herpes virus. They do not have any symptoms but can transmit the virus through sexual contact.

I'll admit it. Although I'm not proud of it, I have come to accept that I have the virus and have learned to deal with it.
