There are over 30 kinds of HPV. I have read even up to 100. Most kinds don't do anything or show any symptoms, that's why is it so easily spread from person to person. After all it is the number one STD.
Since you both have the virus it doesn't matter if you have unprotected sex. It is a virus and will stay with you the rest of your life. It's not like you are going to reinfect each other or make it worse. There currently is no cure for HPV right now.
You need to be going to your OBGYN at least once a year though, because HPV can cause cervical cancer which kills 300,000 women a year! It can also cause genital warts, which although annoying, are treatable. Women usually don't find out they have HPV until they get an abnormal pap smear come back, or they develop genital warts. Both can be treated. Men usually find out they have it by developing genital warts, which can also be treated.
I have had HPV for about 5 years now. I got cervical cancer about a year after I got it, and just six months ago I got genital warts. It can take a while to show any signs or symptoms.

There are over 100 genotypes of HPV known so far, and probably many more that remain to be characterized. However there is a somewhat expensive test that can determine the speciific genotype that you have, from DiGene labs, called the Digene Hybrid Capture test. If you both get this test and determine that you have exactly the same genotype of HPV (it sounds like that is likely), then you could have unprotected sex and not have any risk transmitting a new HPV virus to each other. Of course as others have siad you would of course be exposed to any other stds that the other partner may have or may pick up in the future, but I am sure you know that.

Congratulations! You are now a member of the HPV Spreading Commission. HPV is the fastest spreading STD. Just think, if you used a condom, you probably wouldn't be asking this question. If you and your boyfriend breakup, the two of you should use condoms forever. It's better if you use a condom even though you both have it, there are over 100 strains and you just never know if it's mutated or stays the same.

There are many different strains, but you more than likely have the same strain. If you are concerned about other STDs or pregnancy use a condom. BTW you can still get HPV if you use a condom, most people do not realize this, it is not transmitted through body fluid. Genital warts can be removed by laser, freezing or medication such as podofilox.

well you shouldn't have had unprotected sex to begin with, but at this point he has proven that he will go out and pick up a disease and bring it back home to you........if you are still going to stay with him, your best bet is to make him wrap it up, otherwise you could get another disease ontop of what you already have
and just incase you don't know, HPV increases your risk of cervical cancer

I am not sure about having unprotected sex, because there is no real test or treatment for him, and it goes away on it's own sometimes...so I would ask my doctor about it if I were you. i mean why keep exposing yourselves to it?
