chlamydia bacteria are quite common in the environment, so you can pick it up from other sources other than sex with a partner (for example, from a contaminated dildo or a dirty finger), although this method of transmission is more rare. I would not call it an awful STD - as long as you detect it early, is is easily curable, 100%, with a very short duration antibiotic treatment, with not lasting negative effects. Even if you detect it long after being infected, when it can do some damage to your reproductive system, it is still 100% curable even then. So compared to other STDs it is the one I would prefer to catch the most, if I has to catch one.

Well like I said you can pick up all kinds of bacteria, including chlamydia, from contaminated surfaces, or fingers. Oral sex can transmit it as well. Contaminated sex toys, etc. can be a source.

Thank you SO much for posting this question. I don't know the answer, but I can tell you that I have experienced the exact same situation. My boyfriend and I have been together 3.5 years and were both virgins before we were together. Neither of us has been with anyone else, and I tested positive for chlamydia, but he did not. I was upset over this for months, and I still wonder how on earth it happened. I even wondered if the place I was examined used dirty instruments or something like that... I have no clue, but I feel for you...
