is there a price difference if i bag 1 bag of apples @ 2 pounds compared to 2 bags of apples @ 1 pound each? i say no for such a small amount but what if the numbers get larger? i ask this because my sister wanted to buy bananas and divide them up. so i was thinking whether she should put it in one bag or put them in separate bags for the cheapest amount. im probably answering my own question by saying no but i wonder if anyone else has thoughts on this. maybe there is tax difference or something? and i guess im asking if the bags weigh something that add to the total.

Bananas @ 29 cents a pound.

One bunch @ 2 pounds is 58 cents, and two cents tax. Total, 60
cents.

2 bunches @ 1 pound each come to 58 cents, two cents tax. Total, 60 cents. However, you managed to snag an extra banana bag.

My grocery charges less per pound if you buy a large bag of apples or oranges, I think 5 pounds minimum. They're usually prebagged with a $1.00 off tag. The price reduction is only worth it if you eat all the fruit. Throwing one or two away can eat up (no pun intended) your savings in a hurry!

Obviously it is all based on weight - to have two apples exactly the same weight is difficult. But lets assume you have two apples exact 1 pound each then you are correct they will cost exactly the same either way. The bag is not added to the weight and depending on where you are fruits and vegetables are not taxable

the stores are supposed to tare the container (or bag) weight but they do not very often do this so you are paying for the weight of bag. best way is to buy where items are weighed prior to bagging.

If the store's scales are properly calibrated, there should be no difference at all.
