I sorry to hear that, its very unfortunate.
The experience of infected people during the last two decades has shown that HIV is not the "end of the world" and that there is good quality life for several more years. Taking care of one's health, keeping in mind one's vulnerability to diseases, and a positive attitude have been found to be very useful. New drugs and vaccine efforts also offer considerable hope to infected and affected individuals and their families.
What to do now?
#Consult a clinician experienced in treating HIV/AIDS.
# Protect your sex partner(s) from HIV by following safe-sex guidelines.
# Inform sex partner(s) who may also be infected.
# Do not share needles.
# Get psychological support from a counsellor and/or join a support group for people with HIV.
# Get information and social and legal support from AIDS service organisations.
# Don't share your HIV status with people who do not need to know. Only tell people you can count on for support. Think about whom do you want to share your HIV status with.
# Maintain a strong immune system with a healthy lifestyle and regular medical examinations.
# Consider using antiretroviral therapies that may slow the progress of the infection in consultation with a qualified physician.
Best Wishes & God Bless You.

I am sorry to hear about that. You should probably inform everyone you have slept with in the past year or so. Then seek some counseling. Be positive. Eat healthy and take all of your meds. I have read that people are living 15-20+ years with this disease and hopefully in the next few years they will come up with a cure. I read on a gossip column that they have come up with one and that it takes millions to get it and that is why Magic Johnson is still healthy and strong, but I am sure part of that is gossip and rumors. I am sure that Johnson is getting the best treatment due to his wealth but I don't really think they found a cure.

Remember that modern medicine has come a long way. HIV is no longer considered the "death sentence" that it used to be, as long as you are compliant with the meds the doctor prescribes. Some of them will have nasty side effects, but they really do help keep down the viral lode and keep your white blood cell counts up, which are both important for the health of your immune system.

You should consider going to counseling about this, as this is a huge event in your life. Also, find a doctor that treats HIV positive patients in your area and they should be able to help you further.
Check out this web site for resources: http://www.hivpositive.com/
Best of luck with everything.

First off, sorry to hear, I am sure it was a very bad day for you when you found out, second, it is not the end of the world for you, third, go to www.thebody.com , it has a lot of resources for you there, and loads of information. Also just to reetify what others have said, make sure you get a regular Infectious Disease doctor and follow what he tells you to do. I hope this helps you, and keep hanging on there, you are not alone!

You should go to your local sexual health clinic. Nurses there will speak with you. You also have to give them names of everyone you have had sexual contact with so they can also get tested. They will refer you to a specialist, where further testing will be done to see how far the disease has progressed. A support group and close friends will help you cope with this disease. It is manageable with some lifestyle changes. Good luck and I hope everything goes well with you :)

Hi Henri,
Be sure to start your medication regimen so that you can stay healthy. You may also want to start counseling to deal with the emotions and feelings you may be having now. Stay focused on living your best life and be sure to take your meds. Good luck to you.
