The Beatles made an impact on Western Civilization that no band have ever duplicated or even come close. Sargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Band is perhaps the greatest rock album of all time. Just compare A Day in the Life to A Stairway to Heaven. U2 is good, but I would not put them in the same category as Beatles and Led Zeppelin or even with Lou Reed or the Rolling Stones. I would ask this question. Who is better?
Beatles, Bob Dylan, or Donovan. It's a tossup between the Fab Four and the Voice of the Generation.

The Beatles. Led Zeppelin was rather derivative at times, and U2, by comparison, is a musical Johnny-come-lately. In terms of sheer talent and songwriting ability, the Beatles win.

Of course the Beatles were better. They knew more about music and were artistic. Led Zeppelin was cool, hip, artistic and interesting just not as good though. U2, well, he's just good people but don't sound as good as either Beatle or Zeppelin.
