Syphilis is a bacterial infection, just like strep throat, etc. So if you were treated with antibiotics (which I assume you were), and you never contracted it again, then you will be free of the disease and also incapable of passing it on. You're free!

totally man totally! LOL at whole can of JonASS brothers... John Mayer's Waitin on the World to Change came to mind first.. but then I thought about it a bit more.. and realized that he was just saying that we are all waiting, no one is doing anything about it... so it was just empty criticism of how we, as a people, are just so apathetic this day in age. He didnt aim to "start the revoution" or take back the media, or anything.. just throwing it out there that we all don't care anymore..... and that's when the song lost my respect there. I listen to a lot of Bob Marley, a lot of Peter Tosh... those guys really sang and truly believed in peace and respect and tolerance for fellow man. I think we should all listen to a bit of Marley this evening, and get to some good ole, peaceful, happy times! Im either throwing on Bob Marley's Kaya or Natural Mystic when I drive home from work tonight!

If you go to the CDC web site you can get all the answers you need. Here are a few that I found...
If you were treated within the first year, you can still get re-infected with it. If you were treated after the first year it may take more than one dose of Penicillin to correct it. Ask your doctor if you are unsure of if you are still contagious.

If you were treated early and your tests show you are free all these years later, you are free of it.
Had you said you got it and werent treated years ago, you can be treated today. That means that you would't spread it any more. The damage of untreated syphillis couldn't be reversed (neurosyphillis, tabes dorsalis etc.)

My understanding is that you take the antibiotics and then you are cured. Its been the case for the past 100 years or so I think. I think you are safe but ask a doc or nurse or read more to be certain.

it can be spread years later, yes.
cured? if the bacterial infection has not gone too far, then probably.
if you were given meds then you are probably already cured.
and since your tests come back negative you probably don't have syphilis anymore.

Syphilis is cured with anti-biotics. Once taken the STD will not reoccur unless you are re-exposed to it.
