they have what is called a printer and the m's are sent through the machine and each one is stamped with the m

I don't know exactly, it's some form of printing process. The Keebler elves became unionized, kept asking for higher wages and went on strike - so they decided to mechanize the process.

I heard that they fired the person they caught throwing away all the Ws.

They use a laser... and that's a "W" - you're looking at it upside-down.
