Last month I took a blood test, my cholesterol level was of 303.

I was scared, and I started a Detox Diet from my doctor, this type of diet took out all my antioxidants from my body; eating vegetables, organic foods, fruits etc.

I started this diet on May 15, 2006. : Before I start this diet, I felt alot of pain on my chest, back, kidneys, and legs... many headches, my doctor said that it was a closely time to get a heart attack during the next months, but like now I am taking care of myself; I am done with my Detox Diet and my cholesterol went down from 303, to 238, (in 1 month) So anybody knows any diet to reduce cholesterol fast, before the heart attack reaches me!?

My sister fixed her cholesterol and lost 70 pounds in a year by staying away from white foods... ie bread, pasta, cookies, chips, etc. She ate mostly only foods "made by God" such as meat, vegetables, fruit and nuts. She gave up margarine and switched to butter.

She never went hungry, ever! She ate non-stop, just not junk. She did cheat every Saturday and ate whatever she wanted including dessert only for Saturday evening.

So have at on Saturday, but eat naturally through the week. Most importantly, DONT GO HUNGRY!

whoa!!! cholesterol of 303!!! that's a lot. it looks like you have improved in just one month by bringing that down from 303 to 238 so i suggest, keep up the good work.

unfortunately -- i don't think there are medicines out there that will bring that down fast...

hopefully, you will stay in this kind of lifestyle you're in right now.. permanently. i hope you're not one of those patients who will diet until the cholesterol is down then eat again! -- this is a lifestyle change. if you go back to your old ways, your risks might actually increase.

if you are thinking of incorporating an exercise regimen to your lifestyle, that's a good start -- BUT i suggest you consult your doctor first to which exercise is suitable for you. don't start off with high impact exercises like running, you are still ill, and you've been living a sedentary lifestyle, you might get a heart attack if you do that. start with something smaller then build your way. up.

the good news, you CAN lower your cholesterol, but it takes hard work. vegetables are the way to go. if you were to eat meat, it has to be lean, and broiled. i know it has no flavor, but what's more important? the flavor or your health?

and don't forget -- drink lots of water. if you've been getting headaches, and muscle pain -- it could be dehydration. take multivitamins to replenish any minerals that you lose/lack in your diet. otherwise, take it easy.

I grew up in a very small town and High School was were all the activity was except for getting drunk and making out. I even did some of that at school. LOL It's hard to believe I survived High School and I was an "A" Student. School is were Girls were and were I played Football so I had a blast. It didn't hurt that by the time I started High school my Dad had quit drinking (He was one of the worst alcoholics I have ever seen) . Mom was still a pain but Dad and I became best friends, So I guess my view of my High school years is a little biased. The School Dances were big events in a small town that had one movie theater with just one screen, no fast food restaurants and no malls. We didn't get Rock Concerts coming within 150 miles so I didn't see my first Live Concert until I went away to college unless you count local bands playing at the Dances.

I've read that eating oatmeal helps to absorb cholesterol.

My dad tried this and it seemed to work - eating plain oatmeal cookies as a daily snack (1-2 per day) for a few months.
