It depends on the meter type. My dex meter didn't need coding. My Acu-Check meters all came with a key attached to the bottle. With an Ultra Smart, you press the code key, or push the strip in, like you're about to test and adjust it with the up/down buttons on the front. If you're not sure, look at the packaging for your test strips/glucometer.

Each batch of test strips are calibrated to a "key" that comes with the strips. Most meters allow you to change the key number but without the "key" you would not know the number to put in. I hope I have been some help. Your meter's instruction booklet may shed some new light for you too.

Usually, when you insert a test strip a number will flash shortly. this is the code. you can press a button while it flashes to change it. If this doesn't help at all, your meter should have the 800 number for the manufacturer, and they can help if you don't have your book

If you check your meter you might find 2 buttons. now when you insert the strip in press right side of button. If this works then you should be able to change the code.
