a ice cream cake from Cold stone, they fit any ocassion well and trust me this is the best ice cream out there, from bubble gum, bananas, Cake Mix and Choclate (plus over 100 more). They have any flavor and they are all around the country.

Trust me on this. You kid will love it, and everyone will enjoy it as well. Oh. And its really affordable. 25.00 will feed 14 people :)

no, no, no. Chef Kres is here! You should get a cake that is not that sweet and caters to ya 3 year old. A whipped icing that usually is subsitituted at local deli upon request, will be more rewarding. You can get it colored anyway ya want, even designed on it. THere is marshmallow icing and whipped topping icing(coolwhip) that are better than super thick sugar edges that are on a great deal of cakes from stores. Most icings are very sweet and could make ya kid jump off the walls all night. I would suggest a strawberry with white icing, vanilla cake with buttercream icing, or a marble cake that would appeal ya child with two colors being visible inside the cake. If you wanna make one at home.... use a orange cream-sicle cake, where it taste like the classic orange popsicle with ice cream in the middle, it has jello poured on the cake to gel inside after hour wait. it has a kids taste. You should make it yourself though and you can say that to ya 3yr old. If ya do...here are more tricks. Use baking powder in ya cheap old store cake mix. Baking powder (NOT baking soda) and by Adding this makes the cake rise high and be moist. Use more butter that oil as the box may say. Adding that will give it that sweet flavor everyone likes in a cake. i use sugar, vanilla extract, or little bit of milk to yellow cakes and it gives it a sweet moist flavor. Good luck and happy birthday youngin!

My family used to always make a Popcorn Cake for our birthdays when we were younger. In fact, my aunt still makes it for my cousin who will be 18 on her next birthday. I guess you could ice this if you wanted to but it doesn't really need it.

How about this - Popcorn Cake. My family used to make it every year as a cake for those of us who didn't like traditional cakes.

1 cup Butter
32 Large Marshmallows
16 cups Popped popcorn
1 cup Small gumdrops (no black)
1 cup Chocolate covered peanuts
1 cup Smarties or other coated chocolate candy

Melt butter and marshmallows in a large heavy pan over low heat. Stir often.
Put popcorn into large container. Pour marshmallow mixture over top. Stir to mix well.
Add remaining ingredients. Mix together. Pack into a greased 10 inch ange food tube pan or 12 cup bundt pan. Let set until cool. Turn out onto plate to serve. Cut into wedges for all different size kids.

For a 3 yr old, in my opinion you should make it 'small' ---- cupcakes come to mind. They are the right size for little ones and they love having their individual cake. You can make your 3yr olds the 'different' one - his/her favorite character with 3 little candles. Also, at 3 they don't want to use a fork/spoon, but fingers...so cupcakes work best for ALL the kids

I enjoy making kids' bitrthday cakes myself, did it for my niece and nephew and will do it for my son, too!!
In Germany we have jelly bears (Gummibärchen) in all colours and I just made a three-storey cake, filled with raspberries or any other kind of berries available and cottage cheese cream, covered with whipped cream and decorated with the little bears, candles, candy figures. The kids loved it and it was gone in 10 minutes.

Sounds fine, maybe you should just get one of those sheet cakes with the kid's favorite cartoon character on it as well. Kids love those things.
