I love the Soprano family cookbook! I have a huge collection of cookbooks and this is my latest addition. There are some very authentic recipes in it!

Seriously, check eBay for the older Italian cookbooks because their recipes were easier and the cookbooks can be had for next to nothing. Just put in ITALIAN COOKBOOK in a search.
But if you want the name & author of a good cookbook, look for
THE CLASSIC ITALIAN COOKBOOK by Marcella Hazan--(and she wrote a few more). She is considered to be the Julia Child of Italian cooking.

I really like Giada DeLaurentiis' Everyday Italian. The recipes are usually fairly easy to follow yet have a lot of flavor. Many of her recipes can be made in less than 45 minutes. The book tells you how to make everything from antipasti to desserts.
She also has out a new book called Giada's Family Dinners, which tells you how to make larger family style meals. You can buy DVDs of her first 2 seasons on the food network, which are great, because you can watch her make the food before you do it yourself. She is also on the food network 2x a day during the week (1:30 and 4:30 pm ET). She also happens to be beautiful.

The book I recomend is "Culinaria - Italy"
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/3829029012/qid=1151106298/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/002-1372173-1919252?s=books&v=glance&n=283155
The book has all kinds of recipes for pasta, rice, meat, anything.
It is divided by region (as every italian cookbok should be) and for each region has a section on wine.
It's easy to use because for every dish, there's a picture of how it should look when it's done.
The book could be a photography book, pictures are stunning and useful. Don't you hate those recipe books where you have no idea how the described dish should look like ?
Recipes are well described, simple to follow. You won't be disappointed!
