If you are not eating any eggs or drink milk or pretty much avoid dairy as well as meat, that makes you a Vegan, not a Vegetarian. A Vegatarian does eat dairy like eggs, milk, and cheeses to name a few.
If you are eating creamy soups with all vegetables, you are eating dairy, so you must be sure that your food is cooked appropriately. When you order from a restaurant, pasta is obviously ok, but ask them not to put any butter in the pasta because they usually do. When eating salads, use vinegar and oil rather than any regular dressings like ranch or whatever. All of those contain dairy in the form of mayonnaise, which is made from eggs and sour cream most of the time. You have to asumme that any restaurant will use butter or any dairy in anything they cook for you. So be specific about what you need, no matter how annoying you become to your server. You also have to remember that in order to stay healthy, you have to eat lots of protein. Protein is found in vegetables like broccoli, asparagus, carrots, etc..... Rather than just plain steaming them, sautee them and use a little olive oil and a little white wine. This will make up for the taste factor as you are probably sick of eating plain steamed veggies day after day. Keep it simple but fun, check with your doctor regularly to make sure you are properly nourished, and try to stay as well rounded and healthy as possible.

You are actually a vegan if you don't eat meat, eggs, or milk. Read labels on food. In the ingredients list it will say if it has animal sourced food in it. Watch for cheese, they sneak that in to a lot of food. Watch for gelatin it is made from hoofs and snouts, and watch for casein, it is a milk protein. Whey is another animal sourced protein. You will learn with time. It gets easier to learn what you can and can't eat. Just make sure you explain to waiters and waitresses your limitations!

Just look at the ingredients list in the store.
At restaurants, it's OK to ask the waiter what choices are good for a vegetarian or vegan.
Sneaky foods you think might be safe but are not include:
ceasar salad (traditionally has anchovy in it!)
Jello
candy with gelitain (look for candy made of pectin instead)
traditional french onion soup (beef based)
sadly many "traditional" vegetable soups are also beef or chicken based
Pick up a food encyclopedia. This will help you understand what common food ingredients are made of animal products.

Be very careful when you shop to check the ingredients. All foods must say if they are vegan or contain animal products.
It is hard until you find the brands that are vegan friendly however it wont take you long to work it out.

ya know, since you decided what you wouldn't eat... it makes sense that you would know what you will eat. Good grief!
