I never really liked meat, even as a kid I would only eat the vegetables.
I have been vegetarian now for 10 years. Learning how to get all the nutrition your body needs is important.
At thirteen that's fine. Just make sure you get enough iron.
One thing I do is cook tomatoes in a cast iron pan so the tomatoes absorb iron. Eat plenty of dark, leafy green vegetables, broccoli is an excellent source of iron too.
Tofu and lentils will give you all the protein you need.
Good luck.

I am a vegetarian (no eggs, yes dairy, no fish) since I was born. My family is a few generations vegetarian. I really don't know if it is right or wrong age - I can't even digest meat - it makes me physically ill. You need to do what is right for you. Just remember that the protein you get from meat does have to be substituted the best you can in your new diet - lentils, tofu/soy, etc. Because you can easily hurt your health if you don't get enough protein. The protein is not the same but similar to what you need. Hope this helps!

I have a girlfriend who started when she was just 10 years old! She is 28 now! She wouldn't have it any other way. Just enlist your Moms or Dads support, whomever cooks your food. They will support you if you educate yourself and then teach them why you want to do this.
Truth is it is a much healthier diet at any age! I have friends who are raising their kids vegetarian and finding that they get sick less! Try reading Diet for A New America by John Robbins. It will help you feel good about your decision and help you to defend it to whomever challenges you.
Oh, I almost forgot to tell you I was 20 years old when I went vegetarian and I was 26 when I progressed to Vegan. I wish I had strarted sooner.

When my son was very young our Dr. gave us a hard time about being Vegetarian. She try ed to make my wife give the baby milk and meat without telling me. we made a deal with her that we would ask a Nutritionist, and what ever they said, we would do. After we talked to the Nutritionist and explained about haw all the vitamins the baby needed can come from plant based foods , She told the Dr. that our baby was eating better than she was, and that she was trained in this Field. With out Milk in his diet he has never had an ear ache

I became a vegetarian when I was 15, I've been one for 1yr and 7 months. I think it's ok for you to be a veggie. Just make sure you take vitamins and get enough protein and iron from other foods.

I was 29, but I wish I had been a vegetarian younger. I know a lot of children now who are vegetarians. So it is okay!

I eased into it- I stopped eating red meat when I was about ten, and then stopped eating chicken and fish about nine years later. I would like to go back to eating poultry and fish, but I feel that in these times it's socially irresponsible to be eating chicken / turkey that could be contaminated with avian flu- I would rather not be the bird -> human link if possible.
