You can get absinth in France, though its not the original stuff Baudelaire, Verlaine and Rambaud got drunk on. The original was made with wormwood which not only cased delerium, but blindness as well. A similar anise flavor can be found in Pernod, another French liquour which, when mixed with water turns a cloudy yellow. I remember walking past bars on my way to class in France (7:30 am) and seeing workers drinking that concoction before work. As far as halucinations, drink enough of anything and you'll see more than you expect!

The genuine absynthe that causes hallucination is illegal in the United States and many, many other countries. even if you could get someone to ship it to you, there's a good possibility customs may open the package and you might suffer some reprecussions.
