I am vegan because I never really liked meat as a child. I became a vegetarian over 10 years ago and then gave up eating all animal product. For me it was just a natural progression.

I'm a vegetarian because I'm against the mistreatment of animals, but I think being a vegan is unecessary if you don't have an allergy or something to those foods. Organic milk, cheese, etc. is not dangerous to animals. The methods of getting these products are not cruel and those animals are better fed than we are. In fact, if a cow is not milked, she can get very sick. Why do you think women have breast pumps? It can't just sit in there forever! Plus, the benefits toward your health that these foods have are integral to a healthy body. Not to mention the fact that there is some type of animal product in almost everything. It's very difficult to avoid.

I am one of the few vegans I know that eat this way solely for health reasons. In the U.S.A., Vegans live an average of 11 years longer than meat eaters, with lower rates of all known chronic diseases, including arthritis, diabetes, and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. I have found, however, that after not eating corpse food for about 30 years now, while the thought of does not make me squeamish, it is not appetizing at all.

Interestingly, ovo-lacto vegetarians (dairy and egg eaters) live an average of 7 years longer than meat eaters, implying that even that limited intake of animal protein has deleterious effects.

well, vegans like to have a plant diet because they dont want to have to put animals under any harm or stress just to get a full stomach, for instance vegans wont eat milk from cows because it is an unnatural process for the cow to keep making milk , the stress inflicted on the cow is like a human having to run six hours per day, also chickens have to put alot of energy to make eggs everyday , they have little energy left to move around even if they had the space, you could buy free range but animals would still be subject to unfair treatment where after the cow cannot keep on going producing milk she is killed off immedietly , baby calves and lambs are taken away from their mothers in orderfor the milk to feul human consumption, chickens who cannot produce enough eggs each day (a completely unnatural thing for them to do ) are also immediately killed off, there are more reasons as to why people become vegans , it has a better impact on the environment (deforestation is widely due to meet land needs for cultivation and for cattle to graze).

aside from the incredible health benefits, the main reasons are ethical. i became vegan five months after going completely vegetarian. for many years i had eaten meat occasionally, but after learning more about animal treatment and the environmental cost of breeding animals for food, i gave up all meat, and then gave up eggs, dairy, and animal products and additives.
my main reasons are:

1-egg-laying chickens are overcrowded, have their beaks cut off with hot blades (which causes some to starve to death because eating becomes too painful), and they are starved into laying eggs when their production is too low. egg farms sort baby chicks by gender, and the males are tossed into a big bin. they either suffocate or are burned alive.
2-dairy cows are constantly impregnated by machines (they are never allowed to mate normally), and their babies are taken shortly after birth to become veal, steak, or hamburger, so we can take their milk. they are milked as often as possible by machine, and many are injured. milk contains a lot of pus, even if it comes from healthy cows, but injury and illness are common, because they are seen as a money-making product, not as creatures with feelings.
3-milk cows have shorter lives than they naturally would. when they can no longer produce enough milk, they are sold to butchers for hamburger. (like killing women once they reach menopause.) so buying milk, ice cream, butter, or anything with whey in it contributes to the meat industry on many levels.

there are other reasons, but i don't want to go on and on... i'll post a link with other reasons.

when i became vegetarian, i still felt guilty about eating eggs and dairy, because i knew i was still contributing to the same horrible industries that i did by eating meat. eventually i took the leap and gave it all up, with the help of a friend.

it is much harder than becoming vegetarian, since most foods on the market have animal products in them, but i feel healthy physically, and it's a relief to know i'm not contributing to any animal abuse or death anymore.

I am not one, but have family members that are.
could be one of many reasons: a fad; personal preference for vegetarian type food; allergies to foods that are not vegetables (but remember they have to get their proteins from somewhere and eat a balanced meal in order to get the benefits of other foods - so they have to substitute with vitamins, etc); some people just can't stand the site of raw beef or chicken and even if cooked the thought of it...turns them off. etc etc

cause it is healthy for you though you can end up with low iron or B12 levels but that is fixed with a supplement you should always consult a health care professional before you make any long term decisions about your health

maybe because
1. you have a bad disease and you can't eat anything with meat, fish, or egg.
2. you just lose your appetite at the above because you think of dead animals.
3. to lose weight
