When my daughter was born, she got an infection in her eye. They tested it and said it was chlamydia, and that I must have given it to her. So I had to go and drink this nasty chalk tasting drink, and get tested. It turned out that I was negative. So either the test that they gave my daughter was wrong, or someone touched their nasty chlamydia fingers in my daughters eye. I would assume that not all tests are accurate.

They are for the most part accurate but false negatives are a possibility....it sometimes takes 7-10 days after contact to get a reading, and the doctor has to have the swab in the cervix for a certain amount of time to get the best sample. Some doctors will just go ahead and treat if there is a presence of discharge even before the results come back. Chlamydia can be a "sneaky disease" where a person may not have any symptoms at all! If you are unsure and you did not have protection, and your partner is being honest (and not just messing with your emotions) that they indeed have an infection, you may want to be re-tested sometime there after. Untreaded, Chlamydia and other bacterial STDs can create reproducive problems, such as PID (Pelvic Inflammatory Disease) and infertility. When in doubt, go back to have it checked out and protect yourself.

The urine test is very accurate-so accurate in fact that most obgyn experts recommend regular screening of sexually active females(who are usually without symptoms but very much at risk for serious sequelae from chlamydia) by a simple urine test as opposed to a pelvic exam and swab, etc. This is a big improvement over older methods.

It depends upon the interval of time between the sexual contact and the test. It takes time for the disease to present itself so you could still be infected. Do the test again in a couple of weeks.

Well did he have protection? Maybe you don't have it. When did you get tested, the day after? you should have waited a week, and then went to see your doctor. But you probably don't have it. Don't worry about it. That's good you went to the doctor.

it may have been too early for the test to be +. go back and have it redone about 10-14 days later.

the tests should be accurate because those STD's are caused by different bacteria, it's different tests.

Get retested to be sure and either abstain from all sex or use a good, good latex condom everytime.
