I know that peopel contract HIV fthrough sex from HIV infected persons but what if the have AIDS, does that person get AIDS or HIV?

HIV is the name of the virus. AIDS is the name of the disease, once the symptoms have kicked in.
So they would get HIV (the virus) and then the virus would cause AIDS (the disease)

As far as I understand, HIV is the virus and AIDS is the disease. Some people carry the virus but don't really develop the symptoms of the disease, though they can transmit them to someone else.
