I love brussel sprouts. Since I do the topic of cooking them came up one day and I said I had always just boiled or steamed them. Well, now mixing his way and my way, I've found a new taste that's even better. Steam them until almost done, cut them in half, then fry them. I use bacon fat but a vegitarian can use what ever is appropriate. They are great this way and a new taste treat.

Love them! Margarine and a little salt is the best.
Interestingly, the love, or hatred, for the taste of brussel sprouts is related to a genetic trait that defines how sensitive some people are to certain bitter compounds in foods. People with a certain form of a specific gene (see link below) were 100 to 1000 times more sensitive to a bitter compound in certain foods, such as brussel sprouts. Too bad, they don't know what there're missing (or maybe we don't?).

Love Brussel sprouts briefly steamed while still on the stock, then sauteed in olive oil with garlic! They were on our kids Top 5 Veggie List as young kids (as adults they still love 'um)
