Yes. The vaccine targets strains 6, 11, 16 and 18 of the human papillomavirus. Strain 6 and 11 are responsible for genital warts, while 16 and 18 are responsible for cervical cancer.

I was only 17 when I got cervical cancer and then later developed genital warts, both from HPV. I have been treated for both and luckily they haven't come back! I'm so glad they are coming out with this vaccine. I know it won't help me since I already have the virus, but hopefully it will prevent other woman from getting cervical cancer. It kills about 300,000 woman a year!

No, there are several versions of the vaccine, some have strains 8, 11, 16 and 18 (only against strains 16 and 18 cause cervical cancer, 8 and 11 cause warts), but other brands of the vaccine only have 16 and 18 in them, and will not protect against genital warts.

The HPV vaccine can only be used on people who have never had sexual intercourse.
I looked into the vaccine myself when they were beginning testing.
