I know this question has been asked before but I'm wondering if you can get herpes by sharing for example a soda or cigarrette with someone infected? Or is it just skin to skin contact? Thanks in advance for your help.

It depends on what kind of herpes you are talking about.
Herpes simplex virus 1 (cold sores) can be spread by simply kissing or being kissed by someone who has sores on or around their mouth.
Herpes simplex virus 2 (genital herpes) can be spread by skin to skin contact or having sex with someone with the virus. Even if they have no visible sores they could possibly be "shedding" the virus.
Herpes zoster (shingles) can be linked to having exposure to someone with chickenpox.
As for the girl above, there are not thousands of types of herpes. There are only three main types. Maybe she is thinking of HPV (Human papillomavirus), and even then, there are any where from 30 to 100 kinds of HPV, not thousands!

Yes. You can get mouth sores, a type of herpes, from drinking after someone who has one. Oral or genital contact with an infected person can lead to herpes.

I am absolutely terrified and I feel so alone. I just found out last week that I tested positive for hsv1 and 2. I have been with the same man for the past 10 years and within the last year found out that he has cheated on me with numerous women.
