I have the exact same thing. I have had it since I was about five. Laying down never seems to help, so I've gathered it's not really an exhaustion thing. It's something scary and causes you to stop what you are doing though, at least it does for me, and there are times my palms will get fidgety. I told my doctor and he said he was going to do some testing on me a long time ago when I was 13 or 14, and never called back. It was either not that serious or doctors don't stick to their word much. In any case, I don't think it is very harmful, though if it just started recently I would say it is anxiety. Nonetheless, everyone is right, you should see a doctor just in case.

First I will suggest that you see a doctor, because I am not qualified to give a diagnosis or medical advice. I do know that at your age, my guess would be that you are suffering from panic attacks. They can strike anytime without any clear reason (when you weren't feeling stressed about anything...until the attack started, that is). That happens to me, but thankfully, not very often. Breathing in and out of a paper bag for a short time can help, or in my case, talking to someone who has a soothing effect on me. I give my mother a call if my husband isn't home.

Take your Electro Cardio Graph (ECG) and meet a cardiologist in order to check whether your heart beat (rhythm of the heart) is normal.

It depends on how often you get it,& how long it lasts.I had it for years, but eventually I had to go on tablets. At your age I wouldn't worry too much, but get a check-up,just to put your mind at rest.Good Luck
