Medical science seems to think that old tale have some validity. If you look at some people who loose spouses, if they had a really strong relationship, the living spouse dies soon afterward.
I have had a major broken heart and I remember I literally had bad chest pains for a while. I physically hurt along with the emotional pain and suffering.
So yes, it certainly is possible.

Yes, elderly people who lost a lifetime mate will often grieve themselves to death and die from various health issues that were not previously an immediate threat. The same power of mind and love that kept them alive so they wouldn't leave their mate alone, also causes them to go and be with their mate. Any great tragedy of the heart can cause lost of will to live and invite sickness. If left unchecked the mind can actually will the body to die.

Hi, you can suffer heart pains similar to angina when going through a stressful situation (like a death in the family). A relative of mine suffered this when he lost his wife to cancer. I am sure that if the condition went untreated, then - yes - you could die from a broken heart.

I believe so.
My great grandmother died, and the very next day her husband, my great grandfather died. No joke. I think he just missed her so much and couldn't be without her.
So yes, I believe you can die from a broken heart.

well it can lead to depression and other conditions that cause hormonal imbalances, which, even if they don't lead directly to dangerous physiological changes (and some do), will definitely cause behavioural alterations including taking unneccesary risks, poor self care and even suicide. also, a sudden wrench (like the mentioned case of a grandmother following the grandfather into the grave) can cause clinical Shock that is itself a dangerous condition and potentially fatal......... so, yes....
though i wouldn't say it's particularly common!

Myomalacia cardis---is a condition , normally a remote complication of chronic ischaemic heart disease in which one of the chambers of heart becomes very thin and ruptures, instantaneously killing the person.
Nowadays no one allows the disease to advance to that stage.

I've read about it in books! It is soo romantic! Personally, though, I'd rather die of old age.
