Making food look attractive is very important. Herbs work really well. Parsley, garlic chives, the list goes on and on.
My personal favourite is coriander, on salad sandwiches, with tofu, lentil stews, I love it. Not only does it look great, it enhances the flavour of the food.
Mint leaves go really well with fruit and yoghurt too.

Garnish is my favourite part of cooking. I guess it just means to make your food look even more delicious and appetising.
Have you ever eaten Nouvelle Cuisine - that's all about garnish!!!
It depends on what dish you are serving, but parsley works on most savoury dishes. You can buy bunches of parsley in supermarkets, or you can grow it in a pot on the window sill, which is very handy.
Paprika is a good garnish (lovely red colour)
Croutons are good - you can buy these or make them out of little pieces of toast.
Parmesan cheese and black pepper - essential on pasta dishes.
Have fun experimenting with your own ideas too.

Usually a small bit of parsley with the stem on, or 1/2 cut slices of oranges.
There is no real set or standard way to garnish, experiment a bit with different items and choose your favorite.

It depends on what you are having.
Water cress leaves sprigs of parsley rocket leaves are all good for meats. Citrus fruits cut into segments would work with fish or sprigs of rosemary onto lamb
a couple more to try that take a little longer are, take some round radishes and put a series of cuts in ( quarter then quarter again and then again)the tops that reach down about 2/3rds of the way in. .
Place them in iced water until they open up like rosebuds.
cut the bulbs off spring onions and then slaash the ends vertically up the stem. Run the back of a knife down the stem and they shoudl then curl backwards cut to length and start again.
As long as it doesn't look wrong to you then its probably ok and most people appreciate anything that doesn't look like it was thrown on a plate.
Good Luck

you may garnish the dish you are serving, just before you carryit to the table, so it does'nt lose it's flavor, and change color. if you are serving meat preprations, garnish with freshly cut onion rings, tomato slices desseded, chopped corinder, etc. we in india, also put some fried thin crispy potato chips on fried mutton dish. on desserts, you can put finely cut almonds, crushed cardmom, pistachio, raisins, etc. garnish tomato or green soups with fresh cream, corainder, shredded cheese etc. you can use your imagination and try anything which looks attractive and good to taste with the dish you are serving.
