Dried beans are soaked overnight in light salt water ,unless you have a pressure cooker then you could cook them in it too.And its a lot faster

if the beans that you use are dried then yes you must soak them overnight and cook them the next day in plenty of water for approximately 1 hr. before putting them into a soup or stew.If you want to save time then you can use tinned (canned) beans and they taste the same.

Red beans (New Orleans Style) are usually soaked overnight so that it doesn't take so long to cook the next day. BUT...I have found that cooking them starting at night in a crock pot on "low" gives you even better results.

people, the reason you soak beans is to clean them of any dirt and rocks (yes beans can sometimes bring rocks although small) and to soften them. I suggest you soak them unless you taste dirt a la bean.

Most beans can be boiled then set aside for an hour and then used.
