How would you describe the taste of this Mexican ants egg dish? How much do they cost? How do you cook and serve them? Is there anywhere you can buy them in NZ?

Yes, I had them in Tequisquiapan. They were actually quite good for being ant larvae. Mine were kind of salty, though. A little like caviar, in fact. Just don't get roped into drinking at a polke ( I think it's pronounced something like pole-kay, I don't really know the spelling). It feels like snot, tastes like rubbing alcohol and will give you a headache like a ton of bricks slamming your forehead.

I am mexican, the escamoles are prepared with butter and some aromatic herbs, the taste is an earthy flavor of shirmp. as almost all mexican cusine you can eat them in tacos.
