Buy some Azo-Gantrisin available without a prescription until you can see your dr again. And yes, Drink only some sort of cranberry juice or water until then. A UTI is not sexually transmitted. The 3 day antibiotic usually takes care of a UTI and is commonly prescribed. Some doctors prefer to prescribe the 7 day one but it is not necessary. I feel you need a repeat urine specimen obtained with a culture and sensitivity and you can be examined for a STD at the same time. Some women can have episodes of burning from time to time and not have anything wrong with them. But you need to rule all else out before accepting this answer.
Also, an episode of long repeated sex can cause irritation that might burn when you pee.

Well, I would call the doctor and get a new presciption. Some medicines work better than others. I recently had this problem and I ended up in the emergency room. If it gets bad and you have insurance--that is where you could go, if your clinic is not open. Plus you could call a pharmacy and speak to the pharmacist about your situation and see if they have suggestions. There is an over the counter pill you can buy in the pharmacy section that will stop the pain of this problem.. It will not cure it, but it may get you through the time until you can see your doctor, if you can wait. I took the Cipro antibiotic and that ended it. I think I spelled that correctly. So that is a good one for this. It was NOT a sulfur pill--as many doctors, prescribe, and it worked very quickly! I hope your are feeling better soon.

See a gynecologist.
A vaginal swab should be taken to determine what bacteria (inc. Chlamydia spp.), yeast or virus that might be causing the irritation. A bacterial antibiotic susceptibility test may have to be taken too.
Do not douche nor use a "feminine hygiene spray", because vaginal odor is a valuable potential indicator in diagnosing the problem. Infection is the most probable culprit but it is not the only one. Most antibiotic treatment usually lasts longer than three days. Take all of the pills do not stop when you start to feel better, doing otherwise may lead to a flare up of the infection. Also, all sexual partners shoud be tgreated at the same time to avoidping-pong reinfections between people.
Cranberry juice actually has been proven to stop some bacteria from attaching to the cells on the vaginal wall. It inhibits Escherichia coli, but it does not suppress all species of bacteria.
The N.I.H. referance, given in another answer to this question, is a good site. But a gynechologist can make a better clinical diagnosis than you or I.
Good luck.
Most people get vaginitis or vaginosis or urethritis (in males), at least once in their lifetimes.

Go back to your doctor and get more antibiotics. A course of antibiotics for UTI is usually a 5-day dose. In the meantime, drink plenty of fluids, but cut back on sugary drinks and food. Diet wise, try taking lots of healthy leafy greens and citrus fruits to boost your immune system. When the infection clears, try taking cranberry juice daily to help prevent recurrence.

Did you take ALL the medicine you were prescribed??? If you didnt, you are not cured. There are a few ways in which to contract a UTI uncluding but not limited to: not using the bathroom before and after sex, holding your urine for a long time, and taking baths!!! (Sitting in water: Water has bacteria in it that gets into the opening of the vagina causing a UTI). Take showers instead.....

If the 3 day pill made your pee bright yellow, you only got half of the meds to do the job, the pain reliever. Get to the doctor and get the antibiotic. In the meantime, herbs you can use would be goldenseal or cranberry capsules. You don't get enough of the good stuff in cranberry juice to cleanse you.
To prevent, I take cranberry capsules and black cherry extract capsules on alternate days.
