I am from Mexico, and I was suprised when I tried an spanish "bocadillo" because it was "too simple" becaus it only has small slice of ham and and small portion of mustard, the same happened to me whe I tried the NY Hot dogs (wich by the way we prepare with chomped tomatoe, onion and, obiously chile). My point here is the we seem to over fill our tortas with all kind of things, you could find tortas of tamal, chile poblano, fish, etc. the ultimate Torta is the cuban torta that includes at least five product (bread, avocado, beef, ham, cheese).

As regarding the health, nobody that eat tortas are very worried about it.

BRGDS.

Tortas are not a health food, for that go to a salad bar. Enjoy them in moderation, the key word is ENJOY!

What about Double Quarter Pounders? Tortas are as healthy as what you put in them (there are vegetarian tortas but they're not very popular though)--- and you can put everything in them, sweet or salty, as much or as little as you want...

I think you should eat more and stop asking so many questions. If it tastes good you shouldn't worry about it's health value. Like with everything else, moderation is the key to your happiness.
