Know what is normal and what is not normal for you and your body. Know what your body's reactions are when you have a yeast infection. If anything varies from the norm, then check your symptoms. You can get an idea of what you have by comparing your symptoms to those listed on WebMD. Take your suspisions to your doctor. The only way that you can know for sure is by getting tested. Get tested regularly and often. Some STD's can be cured by a medication, some you have for life. Use protection every time, every partner. Finding out that you have an STD is very shocking even if you know you have one before the doctor confirms it.

It depends alot on the std, if it's HIV/Aids, often you don't know until it's too late and you start getting really sick.
If it's herpes, you will develope something like itchy red warts on your privates.
If it's hepatitis, then there are a few different symptoms, anything from feeling like you have a cold/flu you can't shake off, getting really drunk after only a couple of drinks when you don't usually (something to do with the liver), and feeling tired all the time.
The best way to know is to have a comprehensive blood and/or urine test.

The most common STDs - chlamydia and gonorrhea - can often stay completely asymptomatic, as can the more serious diseases such as HIV and syphillis. Genital warts and herpes are visible as lumps on the genitals, but can often be painless. If you have any of the following, please go get tested at your doctors -
Men
Pain on passing urine, lesions on genitalia, discharge from penis, lumps in groin (enlarged lymph nodes) sexual contact with somebody who has notified you they have an STD
Women
Pain during sexual intercouse (usually on deep penetration), pain in lower pelvis, bleeding from vagina after sex, vaginal discharge, lesions on genitalia, sexual contact with somebody who has notified you they have an STD
If you're going to have sex without a condom, make sure it's a monogamous relationship and you and your partner have both been tested first.

Each disease has different signs and symptoms. Any abnormal pain, itch, discharge, unexplained fever or other abnormal health signs should be investigated. Routine health exams are beneficial. If you are sexually active, use protection. Try to save yourself for marriage. If you think you have any health problem get examined at once. Know the history of your sexual partners. Avoid anal sex.

The best way to find out is to see your doctor since many STD's have no symptoms, especially for women, and can cause infertility or worse.
