I camp frequently with my family and we usually have oatmeal, donuts or creal for breakfast (only if ice is no problem). I usally plan each day's meals out and they get progressively less dependant on the ice and coolers. Instant Oatmeal is great because it is light weight, cooks easily with boiled water and stays with a kid for a few hours, unlike donuts or sugar cereal.
Lunches tend to start off with chicken salad for the first day or tow and then lunch meat or peanut butter and jelly. I supplement lunch with chips, fruit and something sweet like granola bars.
Dinners can be hard but if you have a gril you will be set. I usually do something easy the first night out like hot dogs and hamburgers and baked beans from a can and chips. Then I have a steak that is frozen before we leave and thaws as the days go by in the cooler. I keep the steak in a ziplock bag with a marinade and cook it and heat up those already prepared mashed potatoes and a salad. I usually do another already prepared meal like barbqued pork that you just heat up and put on a bun or soup. Vegetarian taco mix is great because you just add hat water and it makes the "filling" and kids will never know the difference.
Mostly look at things that can be prepared in a saucepan and get a cheap one at wal mart or a thrift store. Many convience foods are easily prepared just be heating them up and while they are more expensive and not very nutritionally sound, it is only for a few days and your kids will think you are awesome and always remember the time mom and dad let them eat donuts every morning and smores every night for a long weekend.
Have a great trip and happy camping!

If ice is no problem then why not pre cook some rice and stew
then when you are ready just put it in the pot over the fire and heat.
You can pre cook different things and store them in the coolers.
Won't go bad and you'll have good meals.
You can make a pot dinner and just mix a bunch of stuff...
rice meat veg you can put tomato sauce for liquid stewed tomatos.
You can also take bread and lunch meat for sandwiches, chips
sugar is not good in the heat if your going where its hot.
Just some ideas ... hope you have a wonderful time. We are going next weekend :)

I would suggest for breakfast items: fruit, bread and jam, boxed drinks (juice) Since you have a grill.. you can also cooks eggs if you bring a frying pan.
Lunch items can be sandwich meat like ham & cheese. you can have fruit, and potato chip or snacks like popcorn etc
Canned food I agree is also good... you may want to choose something that takes a short time to heat like beans, pasta etc... You can bring hotdogs in this situation because they're already cooked and won't spoil if they're kept cool.

Like you said...you were busy playing, so why not hot dogs? They are the perfect food for the situation you are describing, they wont go bad in that time and they are very nutritious when you consider the stipulations you are putting on your food menu ideas. Best wishes

bread and sandwich stuff....canned meals,
Best ideas, go to your local army surplus and get a box of MRE's
(Meals Ready to Eat) they are nutritious, have everything you need for a meal in one bag.......chicken tortallini, spagetti, hot dog, just to name a few. They also come with skittles sometimes, I know in basic we always faught over the skittles....lol You can make 'ranger pudding' by adding a little water to the cocoa mix as well.
They are also very quick and easy to get ready! like 5min at most!!
The best part: no need for coolers or anything!!! (more cooler space for beer, pop, and juice!)

Sorry. Burgers won't last 4 days in a cooler.
Ice/packs will melt long before that.
Hot dogs will.
If you don't have access to ice, your better off taking caned goods like we did.

Anything that would stay good in a refridgerator will stay good in a cooler with ice! You should take some canned goods, something they would like...spaghettio's or whatever. It shouldn't matter what you eat, just that your family will be together doing something fun!

Find some dutch oven recipes. Anything you can cook in your oven, you can cook in a dutch oven. Just take some charcoal along and use a charcoal grill(not gas).

Well when I was a kid my parents brought spam, canned soup,
canned vegetables, dries goods, herbs, cookies, marshmallows, bread, pretzels, canned tuna, and they made stew while we were camping. I hope this helps.
