Ketones are chemicals that are produced in the body to help convert fat into energy when there is not enough insulin to generate energy from the sugar. they also appear if you go on a period of fasting (for example when you sleep)
A build up of ketones can cause an emergency condition called ketoacidosis and is a serious, life-threatening problem.
More water won't help. make sure your blood sugar stays in the nominal range and remember your shots!

I have had diabetes for 30 years. You will get that when you have a blood sugar above 250. You will have to do a seperate test to test your keytones. Whenever you have a blood sugar you should test your keytones. You could take a correction shot to get in a more acceptable range. But I would check with your physicain.

Keytones is a chemical produced when there is a shortage of insulin in the blood and the body breaks down body fat for energy. High levels of ketones can lead to diabetic ketoacidosis and coma. Sometimes referred to as ketone bodies.you need to have a moderate diet so you could prevent yourself from getting diabetes mellitus or insipidus which are worse.

DIABETIC'S CHECK LIST
Be consistant
Take your medication as your dr. recommends
Monitor your blood sugar regularly (especially before you go to bed because during the night is the most common -and most dangerous- time to have hypoglycemia or low blood sugar, and is also recommended when you get up to give you a foundation for the day)
Always have sugar (i.e. sweets of some sort) available in case of a low blood sugar reaction. A glass of juice or a spoon full of jelly is recommended if your blood sugar has dropped to a dangerously low level (i.e. below 80), then eat a snack so it doesn't drop down again
Examine your feet daily
Excercise regularly
Eat a balanced diet (lots of vegetables, a piece of fruit instead of juice, a serving of lean meat or source of protein, a serving of high-fiber bread or cereal, and a serving of dairy), and drink a glass of water after every time you eat if at all possible
Schedule regular dr. visits
Bloog sugar level: shoot for a 140 average; try to avoid peaks of over 250; try to avoid lows below 100 (it is impossible to completely avoid getting out of this range from time to time, so don't panic when you do -it happens to the best of us); consult your dr. if you are having difficulties staying within this range or have any questions regarding your diabetes
YOUR DR. IS QUALIFIED TO ANSWER ALL YOUR (especially those that are serious) HEALTH QUESTIONS.
It's a balancing act. Knowing when your medicine peaks, knowing when your blood sugar level peaks, knowing how much to eat, and knowing how much to excercise, are all a balancing act towards keeping you healthy as a diabetic.

A person may begin to break down fats and produce ketones because high blood sugar levels and insufficient amounts of insulin, preventing the body from using sugar for energy, causing it to break down fat instead.

It PROBABLY means your sugar level is sky-high. Water will help. If yu have really being eating WRONG, stop it. If you haven't been to the doc lately, GO in the next few days; or call your doc. Yuor insulin requirements may have changed. Will it kill you today? Probably not, lol. Is it hurting you? Yes. Might it kill you if you don't get to the doc to discuss??? Yep it could. Just FYI. I am not a doctor. My hubby has been one for years.

Ketones are produced by the breakdown of fats, which is usually caused by low insulin. Your blood glucose would be accordingly high. Acid can also build up in your blood as a result (ketoacidosis). If they get too high, you can go into a coma, or die.
