These are recipes kids can do but will need adult help, or you can make them ahead of time!

Orange Balls
•12 oz vanilla wafers
•4 cups powdered sugar
•1/2 cup margarine
•6 oz frozen orange juice, thawed
Crush wafers finely. Add sugar, oleo and orange juice and mix. Shape into balls and roll in powdered sugar.

Edible spiders.
•Use an Oreo cookie for the body
•a smaller chocolate cookie for the head
•M & M's for the eyes (attach with canned frosting)
•use the licorice that pulls apart into strings for the legs.

Peppermint Candies
•1 package (8 oz) cream cheese
•1 box confectioners sugar
•peppermint flavoring (add to taste)
•green or red food coloring
Dough should be fairly stiff, and if you dip your (washed) hands in granulated sugar before rolling the "cookies" into a ball they won't stick to you. After rolling them into a 2" ball, flatten with the tines of a fork (tic-tac-toe style) that has been dipped into the sugar. Refrigerate and serve. You can use decorator toppings on top.

S'mores
•graham cracker, broken into 2 squares
•1 marshmallow
•chocolate candy bar pieces or chocolate chips
Microwave: Place one of the graham cracker halves on a microwave safe plate and place chocolate pieces flat in the center of the cracker, leaving a 1/2 inch border around the sides. Stretch a marshmallow with your hands to make it slightly flattened and square shaped. Place in microwave for about 10 seconds, until marshmallow begins to swell. Remove from microwave and quickly top with other graham cracker half.
*Try this one on your own first to determine cooking time. Be careful because it's easy to cook the graham cracker itself, which makes it taste burnt.
Toaster Oven: Place one of the graham cracker halves on a piece of foil or toaster size cookie sheet. Place chocolate pieces flat in the center of the cracker, leaving a 1/2 inch border around the sides. Place a marshmallow on top of the chocolate and gently place in toaster oven. Cook at 350 just until the marshmallow begins to brown. Remove from toaster oven and top with other graham cracker half.

Pizza Hot Dogs

4 hot dog buns
4 hot dogs
12 slices mozzarella cheese
1 jar pizza sauce
grated parmesan cheese

Split hot dogs and hot dog buns lengthwise. Place buns on a cookie sheet. Sprinkle mozzarella cheese over buns. Place split hot dog on each bun. Spread pizza sauce over the hotdogs, sprinkle with parmesan cheese and broil until cheese bubbles and the hot dogs are hot.

I am not giving you recipes but a few ideas. Make some pasta and put food colouring in the water while boiling-- pick a fun colour.

Buy some vanilla instant pudding and put food colouring in that--use it as finger paint. it comes out of clothes and tastes good if they stick their fingers into their mouth.

Buy some cookies from the store and then put some icing on the top, but make it look like a happy face.

Purchase or make cookie dough, make the whole thing so it is one big cookie, let it cook until almost done then add gum drops and cook for about 5 mintues. Once it cools then add some melted white chocolate on the top in strips. this is called "Sugar plum Cookie Pizza"

The kids will have the most funat a party that keeps them busy. Kids really do not care what food is being served but what fun they had. I hope your party is great and your child has a great first birthday. FUN!

make a monster out of sandwich triangles. Pineapple upside down cake is a good one as the children are amazed how the fruit got there. Chicken nuggets hot dogs. Something simple.
Make sure you have lots of paper plates and cups and if possible put a builders cloth under the table to catch any spills. saves loads of time with cleaning up.
Have fun

Ok I am not sure who all is going to be at this party.

-Chicken fingers
-Pigs in blanket (Hotdogs wraped in crescent rolls)
-You can take a 9x13 pan and layer ice-cream sandwiches on the bottom and top with cool-whip
-Meatballs ( in a crock-pot add meatballs a jar of grape jelly and a bottle of BBq sauce let cook for 4 hours before serving) These can be cut up for toddlers

I have a one year old and remember reading a recipe on the net. All you need is old lolly sticks and a banana. Chop the banana, stick the pieces onto lolly sticks, freeze them and you have a tasty cold treat which is healthy too. Good for the hot weather! I will admit that I haven't tried it yet, but I plan to.

I wouldn't go to town with the food (unless older kids and adults are attending)

The young kids will prefer to play games, eat crisps and fairy cakes etc.

Try not to have food with nuts as there may be someone with an allergy (might not be known yet).

Have a great time and plenty of fun.

Unfortunately, parties for 1 year olds are usually really for their older siblings, parents, frineds, cousins, aunties and uncles. But good healthy food is the best - no icing, no creamy stuff. Kids like plain and simple things at that age like banana bread, gingerbread people, strawberry yoghurt shake, and fruit juice lollies.
