It is transmitted very easily. If they under-ware was washed though before the other person wore it, then no, they wouldn't get herpes from that.
I was worried about giving it to my younger brothers when I lived with them (because we shared the same bathroom). So, I can understand your worry, but you have nothing to worry about as long as they were washed.

Probably highly unlikely you will catch herpes if the G-string was washed and dried properly. If it was a quick rinse or a leather item you might have probs!!!
I wouldn't make a habit of this wearing other people's underwear if I were you - you might catch something nasty - like herpes!!

There is no possibility if they have been washed in hot, soapy water. That kills herpes and all other viruses, bacteria and protozoa.

Clean it properly... with good detergent... spend some money and buy new G-strings for yourself

Flatmates pinching your underwear is a common enough problem. If as you say they have been washed thoroughly then no you can not catch it.
