♡My hubby is Japanese so I asked him what he thought about sushi with cream cheese in it... He said; "That's not sushi, at least not any sushi I've ever had in Japan." I asked him if he'd like to try it and he said; "Thanks, but no thanks. Kimochii waruii!" (*^o^*) Don't misunderstand, he likes cream cheese and I buy it here in Japan at Seiyu, Ito Yokado, Sakagami... I make cheese cake, we eat it on bagels..., BUT just NOT in sushi. That's just the opinion of my Japanese hubby and we eat mostly fish/seafood. It will probably vary from person to person though. I'm American by the way, and we live in Japan. ♡Note: I can find turkey from time to time here too at Sakagami, Kinokuniya and COSTCO. I usually don't buy it either though.(*^o^*)

Most of us dont' know what the cream cheese is. Cream Cheese is not commonly available in Japan. (Similar to Turkey. You won't be able to have Turkey in Japan, unless you go to specialty shop and pay incredible amount of money.)

I am living in the states now, and I love them. I had some make your own sushi party, and used cream cheese a lot.

What do you think about SHIRO-ANN made from soy bean paste with sugar? They are very yummy dessert! Oh, and, NATTO (fermented soy beans) over rice! Cann't live without them!

I read some of the answer from other Japanese people. Being Japanese, they (or we) have to say NO because the sushi is violated by cream cheese. But, they (or we) secretly love them. I know your Japanese husbands are dreaming to have them behind your back, or at least wishing to try one secretly. But, he has his pride left. Mine is long gone.

And, come on! The REAL Japanese who is not influenced by gaijin (real Japanse like myself before I met my wife) do not know or should not know about cream cheese. That is just not Japanese, at all.

Yes, true, I am here in the states for over 10 years now. I lived in Kyoto and Osaka for entire life, and my wife needed to go to Kobe to buy some imported food. She couldn't afford turkey to celebrate Thanks Giving, and made me Taco instead, which I could not eat more than half....and you can guess whay my wife said to me. Honestly, I tired to eat that Taco.

I thought I am losing my japanese-ness here. After all, there is no REAL Japanese left in Japan.

And, Hamachi is the best of all, by the way. FYI, Turkey tastes horrible, and the way chicken is cooked in the states is too dry.

Cream cheese isn't a usual element to sushi yet i does no longer be shocked if some jap eating places might attempt to incorporate it for the newness. Cream cheese on sushi is extraordinarily undemanding in Americanized ssushi, although.

My Japanese husband basically agrees with Cyn's husband!! Except for one addition - my husband says it MUST be an American invention, and it is NOT Japanese food!!
; )

Oh, and I have no trouble buying cream cheese here in Japan either ... whoever said it isn't sold obviously moved to America a few years ago at least!!

Occasionally we see turkey in the local supermarkets too ... but it's pre-cooked, shrink-wrapped, and lasts for quite a while in the fridge!! I don't bother buying it myself, I prefer to buy the chicken legs that are available instead!

If you go to Japan, you'd be hard pressed to find any of the rolls served here in the US. Over there, it's more about the fish and nigiri is king. The few rolls people eat tend to be very simple and traditional: tekka, kappa, oshinko, natto, etc. I remember introducing California roll to some of my friends there, they thought it was disgusting.
