I've been told that in Houston, TX that you have to keep your pets inside if you don't want to end up eating them the next time you go out for Chinese. Even I sometimes wonder. Some of the joints don't always use the highest quality ingredients. We have one in the area that got shut down by the health department (there meat had that funky texture to it). The swanky sushi/Japanese/Chinese joint across the street, the meat always has the correct texture to it. I guess it depends upon the restaurant.

If it's from a chinese restaurant here in america, it's most likely chicken or beef. that's just a stereotype that they use cat or dog. The restaurant probably uses cheap, low quality beef and chicken, which gives it the unusual texture.

It's just tenderized to cook fast. At least that is what the cooks in the alley behind the Chinese Restaurant told me when I was out looking for my cat. By the way, has anyone seen fluffy???

Look for a small ID tag in the takeout box. If you don't see one, you're OK. Or you could try whistling ("Here boy! tweet, tweet, tweet, here boy!") If your moo goo guy pan doesn't come running to you, it's probably real chicken or beef.

If you are from America or Canada, the chances are you are not eating dog. But if you are somewhere else in the world, I guess you have to take your chances. I guess you could ask to see the cut of meat before ordering.
