There is a new restaurant that opened up around the corner and they serve Japanese food. I have never had it before. What are somethings that you like (the names of them)? and what is in it?

Well, teriyaki anything is great, and you've definitely got to try tempura. Tempura is lightly breaded and fried shrimp or vegetables. For someone who's new to the cuisine, california rolls are a good beginner's choice, seeing as how they're filled with crabmeat (like a crab salad) and avocado wrapped in sticky rice. If you're interested in trying sushi, start out with tuna or salmon rolls, and progress from there. I haven't personally had unagi (eel) yet, but a friend of mine has and loves it, so I'll probably be giving that a try sometime soon.

Hope you enjoy it! Oh, and watch out for the wasabi!

I love all kinds of sushi. Unagi is my favorite (and might be a good introduction to sushi, as it's cooked).

Miso soup is a nice broth soup (you drink it directly from the bowl, not with a spoon).

Tempura is vegetables or seafood that are deep fried in a light crunchy batter. Very tasty.

Some dishes are going to be raw (sushi, sashimi).

If you have questions about the food, I'm sure the servers would be happy to explain things to you--especially since they're a new restaurant and want to develop a clientele.

Maybe they'll have a sampler plate with different kinds of dishes.

Enjoy!

if that is ur first visit to jp restaurant, mayb i can recommand dishes that serve with cooked food, such as california roll (basically seaweed rolls up with avocado, crab meat, cucumber ...etc) eel sushi with sauce or tempura if u like fried stuffs. Then if raw food is OK for u, u will love the raw seafood such as, octapus, smoked salmon or tuna dipped with wasabi. Have a pleasant experience in jp restaurant!

my favorite food in the world in from japanese cuisine.....

some include sushi, of course. most sushi has raw fish on it, but the california roll doesn't. the california roll is made up of rice, seaweed, cucumbers or carrots, avocado, and crab. it is the safest thing to order, beside a chicken terriyaki.

you might be brave enough to order sushi with raw fish....it has the raw fish, rice, and seaweed. a lot of people are afraid to eat it because it is raw....but if you eat it cooked, it has MORE fishy taste....the kind people expect. i love sushi, and take my word for it that it is good. if you eat the sushi, eat it with some soy sauce, and if you want it a little spicier, add a little bit of wasabi. wasabi is a green horseradish paste used for a little spicier flavor. most people add it straight to the soysause for dipping, some put a little into their sushi. just be careful not to eat a lot of it....you will cry if you get a big amount of it......some people new to the cuisine think it is avocado and eat all of it....HOW EMBARRASSING AND PAINFUL!!

Personally, I love Japanese food. I like Hibachi Steak. It has a teriyaki type sauce on it and mushrooms. Generally they serve it with fried rice, sweet carrots (yummy), and shrimp sauce (wonderful). Go with a friend and each of you get something and split them. That way you can try different things.

one of my favorites is oden. it's a "stew" of fish cakes, konyaku, daikon radish, deep fried tofu wedges simmered in a dashi based stock.

there is a huge assortment of Japanese foods besides sushi and tempura. The main thing is freshness and simplicty of preparation. presentation is very important as well - the food has to look beautiful as well as taste great.

check out the book, "Food of Japan" by Shirley Booth. Great cookbook with a lot of interesting recipes.

Anything made on the Hibachi is great. Shrimp, Chicken, Beef, Scallops are all my favorites. They are usually made with teryaki sauce and served with veggies, rice and noodles. Try it .. I bet you love it!

Sushi, but make sure the seafoods are fresh enough to be served raw.
Ramen is good also.
