My dad had this problem when I was a senior in high school, but absolutely refused to take medicine. So my mom cut back on the fried foods (we live in Georgia so that was hard for him), and he took two 81 milligram baby aspirin a day. He also took a small shot of vinegar a day on the advice of my aunt, who is a nurse. I'm not sure why that works, but I do know that his blood pressure and cholesterol went down, and he's feeling a lot better. Hope this helps!

Moderate exercise is always a good idea. Water aerobics are wonderful, as is walking, swimming, and dancing. I realize that many folks in this condition cannot run, bicycle, attend aerobics classes, etc., but exercise and diet are still the best laymen-oriented ways to combat diseases like heart attacks and strokes. A children's asperin, once a day, has also been talked about.

Stay on a low salt diet, no junk foods or processed foods. Just fresh, low-fat proteins, veggies and fruits. Whole grains instead of white; lay off of the pasta. Salt intake reduction will decrease the volume of fluids the heart has to pump and lower your pressure. Also, up the fluids (no sodas or caffiene), drink water or fruit juice. Lower weight if overweight and that will also have a significant impact on the blood pressure. Moderate exercise, 30 min. a day walking; or 3 10 minute walks, will also help. Lots of good sleep and stress-reducing activities.

Coenzyme Q10 is ESSENTIAL. Also, do not take Statin drugs. They increase the risk for stroke! Take Vitamin E (all 8 molecules, especially the heart protective form GAMMA tocopherol), e.g. Now's Gamma E, and don't take a mass market vitamin like CENTRUM (www.centrumistoxic.com).

Great question, going natural and looking at the non-chemical way to beating HBP. Well, make sure you drink plenty of water and get regular light-medium intensity exercise (avoid weight training as it shoots your BP up).
