A person (claiming to be a pre-med student) told another person on the forum that cold sores are NOT the herpes simplex virus. She said she gets them all the time but warned that they were contagious.
Good grief! You would think that if you were going to put your source as "pre-med" you may actually do some research before spouting completely false answers. Right?

By the way, cold sores ARE the herpes simplex virus, I am afraid. Even if children have it. Make sure your little ones are careful not to kiss others or share drinks or utensils while they have the breakouts.

Yeah that's ridiculous. I can't stand when people answer a question and they obviously know nothing about the subject. Especially the ones who copy and paste answers about serious stuff.
I personally have genital herpes so I feel like I have pretty good knowledge of the virus. And yes cold sores are a form of herpes, they are herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1), and can be passed to children and other adults just by simply kissing them. Herpes simplex 2 (HSV-2) are genital herpes. There is even herpes zoster (or shingles) which can be a rash anywhere on your body.
People need to educated themselves more about this before they go answering questions they don't know about.
I totally agree with you on this.

I got diagnosed with genital herpes (type 2) about 4 years back, whilst I was still attending college and had a silly one-night stand. I realize lots of girls say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a huge mistake that one time and suddenly I felt like I was going to have to live with the implications for my entire life. The hardest part was feeling I could never date men again. After all, who wants to go out with someone who has sores round her "you know what" area? But since a friend shared this video https://tr.im/Z9WTU everything changed.
Not only was I able to remove all traces of the herpes simplex virus from my body in less than 3 weeks, but I was also able to begin dating again. I even met the guy of my dreams and I'm so lucky to write that just last week, in front of everyone in a busy restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!!! This program provided me the opportunity to be happy and experience real love again. Now I hope that I can help others too by sharing this story.

I agree with you, but again if people think that they are getting advice from a doctor/lawyer etc. on Yahoo answers they may need a reality check. Unfortunately someone might actually take some of the awful advice posted on this forum. People need to understand that if you have a medical condition or fear that they have something please seek a physician.

there are many different types of herpes virus. people hear "herpes" and they think STDs. Cold sores are herpes, just not the same as the ones that you get "down there". Cold sores are treated with the same meds as genital herpes. If you get cold sores, you are a carrier, and you cannot cure it, it is the same way with genital herpes. I got cold sores when I was pregnant with my son, and it put me in the hospital for 3 days, he is now a carrier also. All I can say is, pre-med bull sh*t, i knew all that even before I got cold sores.

That is truly sad. That information is old as Methuselah! Has this person been on another planet or something?
