I stopped eating meat in March, 2006 and am curious if I would have a reaction to it now... not that I intend to start again I just want to know in case I forget to ask about soup stock.

You shouldn't have a problem with meat now. After not having it for quite a while, I wouldn't eat 15 lbs of it at once or anything. If you're only worried that it may be in soup stock...there should be no problem. (Unless you stopped eating meat for some medical problem, then something bad could happen)

You should not have a reaction to meat like in soup stock.
If you are not eating meat and go out and have a big t-bone steak you will most likely not feel well and end up with a case of diarhea. But that is about the worst of it.
I was vegiterian for many years and now eat meat. I had no problems readjusting to it but I still do not eat a large amount of meat.
If I have a steak I only eat like half of ot so I do not get sick.

Many people have no adverse reactions to eating meat again.
I stopped for 10 years and then started eating chicken again recently. No reaction except "Wow, I forgot how yummy this is!"

(BTW when I move back to N.America from the 3rd world, I'll give it up again, there's just not much other protein where I am)

Some people react badly to a big steak when they are vegetarian, but usually soup stock will not affect you. Depending on your reasons for being veggie, you may not have to worry at all about it.

Every body is different. I haven't eaten meat in 12 years, and I don't get a reaction if I accidentally get meat-based stock. I can tell the difference though, and normally don't eat more than a bite when that happens. However, I did have crab after only a few months of being meat-free, and I did get very sick. Nothing life-threatening, but I was very uncomfortable.

I actually had a reaction to beef stock.. after 6 years, I think. I accidentally ate canned mushroom soup and couldn't figure out the skin rash I got on my arms and legs. I tried to avoid cleaning products I hadn't been using before, stopped drinking soy milk I had just started drinking.. still got the rash. And then my Mom noticed that the soup contained beef stock. I never touched the soup again and haven't had the rash since.

But you should really be OK after such a short time, don't worry.

Btw accidentally consuming chicken stock after 7 years didn't cause anything.

no you shouldn't have an adverse reaction to meat. i haven't had beef in along time because of the price. so when a grocerystore had it on a good price i bought a a pound and cooked it and i was fine. it just depends on what you deside to eat if you eat meat. chicken might your best bet to start out with. especially white meat. it's mild and healthier for you.

I believe that the 'reaction' thing is a myth. I am sure within the 9 years as a vegetarian I have inadvertently eaten meat with no reactions so far.

Soup stock is no big deal for you. Some beef maybe a little problem there.
