Desserts are easy. You can make a cake like they've shown in some magazines, with yellow sheet cake topped with Cool Whip, sliced strawberries and blueberries in the shape of the flag. Or parfaits with red jello, Cool Whip, blue jello, Cool Whip. You could make some kind of sandwiches on white bread and cut them out with star-shaped cookie cutters. Red and white stuff are easy, it's the blue that's tricky. Blueberries, jello and blue candy are about it.

Scrapbook club??? Well, OK...

How about a rectangular antipasto platter with cherry tomatoes, sliced small fresh mozzerella balls, and bluish olives (go to gourmet store's olive bar). Arrange into a flag pattern, using cherry tomatoes and sliced mozzerella for stripes, olives for blue square and mozzerella again for stars?

Alternatively make a sheet cake, ice white, decorate with lines of strawberries for red stripes, and blueberries for blue square. Pipe extra white icing for stars.

Of course hot dogs and apple pie are also patriotic if you don't want to go to too much fuss.

Firecracker ham rolls

Get some deli meat such as ham (rectanglar shaped is best.) Mix cream cheese, chopped black olives or chilies, and chopped red pepper. Spread on meat and roll it up. Cut in half, and stnad upright on a plate. Take a piece of chive and stick it into center like a wick. Makes a cute and tasty display!!!

*** if you don't eat meat, you can use flour tortillas

What could be more American beside hot dogs and hamburgers? You could add pork & beef ribs for the southern and Western influence.

Maybe you could add pulled pork and a beef brisket but that may be adding too much (food and work).

Then again you could hire a caterer;-) what section of the country. I know quite a few BBQ caterers around the country I could hook you up with.
