I have had a heart murmur for as long as I can remember. I'm not sure of your specific details, but mine is due to mitral valve prolapse. It has never held me back from doing anything. I have a physically demanding job and have never had a problem. The only adjustment I had to make was, prior to any dental work, I have to call the dentist and take antibiotics before the appointment. I would discuss with your doctor and get his or her opinion on your child's condition. Many heart murmurs will not affect your child's life at all.

here's my story: hi, i am a mother of a 3 yr old. when my daughter was born, they said she was healthy and when she went to the doctor again when she was under 1 yr.. the doctor told me that she had a heart murmur. later she was referred to a heart specialist and at the age of two...her pediatric cardioligist mentioned she had pulmonary stenosis. anyhow i just found yesterday when i took her in for her appointment...that she has more than one problem.. she also has atrial septal defect.. where there's a hole instead of a full wall.. in her heart.. well pretty soon.. she has to do heart surgery when she gets a little bit older...around 5 yrs.. darn this is the last thing any mom would want to hear=*(
i don't really know the effects of certain heart murmurs and what kind of murmur is it? things should be okay..shes still young and only time will tell.. you should discuss this with her doctor. i hope everything will be well.. take care and good luck to your family.

Ok first I hope by 2yr. old you mean your child and not you cus that would be amazing. Secondly has the 2yr old been diagnosed with any heart realated conditions. I have a heart condition and I used to have a murmur but it was fixed or something I really don't know. Anyway most of the time murmurs are non-fatal and don't cause much of a disruption in life. feel free to e-mail with more questions

depends on how bad the heart murmur is- the vast majority of heart murmurs are minor and nothing needs to be done. youd have to talk to your doctor about it. if the doctor isnt concerned about it, then its probably not a big deal and you dont need to worry. lots of kids have them.
if it is a major problem, treatment involves surgery of some form pending on what the defect is (faulty valve, a hole, etc).

Most murmurs are not fatal. Often they require some special preventative treatments - especially for dental work. See a pediatric cardiologist for details specific to your child's case.

my partner and child both have heart murmurs.
It really isnt a big issue.
I know it is worrying but as the guy said, is more a case of using preventative treatments.
Dont worry about it
