AIDS is caused by a virus HIV(Human Immunodeficiency Virus)
On can get infected by HIV by,
unprotected penetrative sex (vaginal, anal, oral) with an infected partner,.
Transfusion of infected blood and blood products.
Contaminated needles and syringes and
From an infected mother to her baby before, during delivery or through breast milk.

Condoms make sex safer when used properly but they are not 100 percent safe. Safety factors to check on when buying and using condoms are,
- Expiry date of the condom - do not use one which has expired.
- Storage - condoms should be kept away from the heat (for example, from car glove compartments, direct sunlight), and pressure (for example, sitting on a wallet containing condoms).
- Making sure that sharp objects do not tear a condom during use.
- Making sure that the air is expelled from the teat of the condom while wearing, so as to prevent it from bursting during intercourse.
Its a myth that only gays get it,anybody who has unprotected hetrosexual or homosexual relations with an infected partner(same sex or oppisite sex) is at risk of being infected with HIV.

I'm telling u all I know about HIV since uve answered ur question urself.

AIDS, is the last stage a person gets due to the acquiring of the HIV virus(this is the definition from orthodox medicine's point of view). The HIV virus can be acquired from an infected person's sexual fluids(vaginal fluid or semen) or blood through exposures such as sharing drug needles, unprotected sex and/or an infected mom breastfeeding her child. You DO NOT get it from saliva, urine, tears or sweat. A condom basically protects the people involved because it stops them from getting each other's sexual fluids or blood while having intercourse(unless the condom breaks, which puts you at risk). "Gays" get it like anyone else. Although by having anal intercourse(which some men engage in with other men) with an infected person without proper protection(yes, I mean the condom) will put a person at the risk of getting HIV . This is because the skin in the anal canal(a$$, if you want to call it) is very thin and can get microscopic wounds easily therefore giving the virus a chance to get inside th non-infected person's body. The same is also true for the skin inside pathway by which urine comes out of the penis. By the way, you can never tell for sure if someone is infected with HIV. The best way is to use protection all the time unless you and your partners have been tested HIV negative. A valid HIV negative can be taken 6 months after the last potential HIV exposure.

AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome.

An HIV-positive person receives an AIDS diagnosis after developing one of the CDC-defined AIDS indicator illnesses. An HIV-positive person can also receive an AIDS diagnosis on the basis of certain blood tests (CD4 counts) and may not have experienced any serious illnesses. A positive HIV test does not mean that a person has AIDS. A diagnosis of AIDS is made by a physician according to the CDC AIDS Case Definition.

Over time, infection with HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) can weaken the immune system to the point that the system has difficulty fighting off certain infections. These types of infections are known as opportunistic infections. Many of the infections that cause problems or that can be life-threatening for people with AIDS are usually controlled by a healthy immune system. The immune system of a person with AIDS has weakened to the point that medical intervention may be necessary to prevent or treat serious illness.

AIDS is actually the HIV virus. It is an immune diffidence disorder, making the person with it very easily infected by any other virus or germs, with no chance for healing it.
It is spread threw blood. When you say how do gays get it,I will assume your talking about male gays? In that case they get it from anal sex. There are many, many tiny blood veins in the rectum, that can be ruptured and bleed. After all that is what Hemorrhoids is. How do condoms help prevent it,by protecting the genitalia from exposure to blood containing the HIV virus.

So you have been living under a rock in cave for the last 25 years have you? It's a retro virus, a nasty one too. It has a variable incubation period so it could be as much as ten years between the time you get it and the time you start to show symptoms. You get it from sharing certain bodily fluids with someone who has it, like semen or blood. Gays get it the same way everyone else does, unprotected sex.... gays just get a lot more of it than most of us do (sex that is).

Well, essentially the most greatly approved clarification is that HIV (and AIDS) was once triggered by means of the zoonotic switch of the SIV virus into persons (???round Lake Tanganyika, someday within the Nineteen Fifties). HIV (of which there are a number of unique varieties; it isn't a unmarried virus - essentially the most average HIV virus in built international locations being the HIV1-M-B virus) is transmitted among individuals by means of the switch of bodyfluids (SEB: secretions, excretions, blood) from an inflamed individual to an uninfected individual. It is transmitted by means of extra manner than simply intercourse, for illustration it's transmitted from an HIV+ mum to her bub throughout a vaginal start as good as even as breastfeeding. PS I'm now not definite from the wording of your query however HIV and AIDS are *now not* the equal factor. AIDS is the syndrome; HIV is the causative agent. HIV isn't curable however, in 2007 within the western global, it's now a doable situation. Someone who will get inflamed with HIV-one million at present will most of the time take a minimum of 14 years to exhibit any signs of AIDS; any individual inflamed with an HIV-two virus within the west at present will most of the time be lengthy useless from different factors earlier than there is a rat's hazard in hell of them ever setting up any signs.
