Unfortunately there is no way you can stop herpes or get rid of it.

There are a few medications that can suppress herpes though. They can be taken daily or just when you are having an outbreak or "feel" an outbreak coming on.

Some oral medications:
Acyclovir (Zovirax)
famciclovir (Famvir)
and valacyclovir (Valtrex)

There is even a acyclovir (Zovirax) ointment, but it's not usually recommended.

Yes, there isn't any. Herpes is caused by a virus. Actually, there is little cure for viruses nowadays. The only thing that you can generally do in the case of a viral infection is strengthen the immune system and hope it fights it off. Not with Herpes, the immune system can't win against it. Thus you only get to treat the symptoms. Once you're infected, it stays with you for life. So don't get infected.

Personal experience. I have had genital herpes for over 5 years.

It can only be prevented by simply not having sex with someone who has genital herpes. Condoms are not 100% effective, so you'd still be very likely to contract the virus even if you think you're "protected." In order to protect yourself from it, you need to know your partner's sexual history and you need to trust them to be honest with you about those things.

Once the virus is contracted, it is persistant. You will have the virus your entire life and pass it on to all of your sexual partners as well. While it goes through latent periods where you have no symptoms or actual herpes, it can still be transmitted. If you have genital herpes, warn your partners beforehand to prevent further spread of the virus.

The best way try to stop is to genital herpes is to ask your sex partner if he/she has any STD's. Before you have sex with your partner go get a check up both of you.Use a condom at all times. And with every one of your sex partners. If you don't ask you have a greater risk at caughting STD's an all other types of things. If you use LATEX CONDOMS then you have at least 95% change to caught any STD's.If you don't have sex then you want have to worry about any STD's. But you can't stop genital herpes.

Well...If you already have them, you are screwed...herpes are not curable, but they can be treated so the outbreaks are less severe. If you do not YET have them....wear a condom for the best chance of avoiding them or stop having sex.
