It sounds like you may have a UTI (urinary tract infection), or a yeast infection, or both at the same time. If you've never had a yeast infection before, OR you start running or fever or having lower back pain (lower back pain may indicate that a UTI infection has spread up into the kidneys), then plan to see your doctor as soon as possible.
If you've had a yeast infection before, get one of the OTC medications. You may also want to eat yogurt with active cultures and take cranberry supplements - as both will help balance out the natural (and normal) bacterial forms that inhabit the vaginal area.

there's a couple different things it could be. Is there excessive discharge? If so, what color? Answers to stuff like that is a little more helpful here.
It could be a urinary infection. Do you have cramping in your lower abdomen?
Could be a yeast infection or an STD. Which is why the first questions I asked you are important.
the only way to find out for sure what's going on, is to visit a doctor.

It sounds like cystitis more than likely, which is a form of urinary tract infection, or it could also be some kind of STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease). I would certainly consult a doctor and get professional advice about this though. I wouldn't worry too much about all this if I were you because you probably will simply be prescribed some oral antibiotics by your doctor which are to be taken daily for about seven days or so...

you might have a urine tract infection or yeast infection
if you have a slight burning then drink a lot of cranberry juice but don't let it last too long.
If you have a yeast infection then get some monostat for that

If you have had sex recently, you could have an STD, or a yeast infection (you could also have a yeast infection without having had sex recently.)
