Occassional heart burn is normal. If you get heart burn a lot, then you may need to see your doctor. There are many over-the-counter medications like rolaids & tums. What I thought was heart burn ended up being gas build up in my stomach causing pain in my esophagus. If you try heart burn medications that don't work, then try medications for gas. You may be surprised to find that your "heart burn" was actually gas. If you consisently get heart burn or gas after eating a certain food, you may just need to stay away from that food. Good luck.

Take a swig of plan old vinegar and you won't have to worry about heart burn for a while. Rolaids, Tums, etc. all those are, are temporary pain reliefs.... The food and drug admn. wants you to think it helps and works... It actually, over time can causes your body to develop serious heart burn.

A half a teaspoon of baking soda in a half a cup of water will work in about two - five minutes and is the most effective thing I have found. Tums, Rolaids, etc are too mild. Just try this once and you will be forever changed.

Don't talke tums, or any other calcium carbonate containing antiacid because the body must secrete HCL in order to handle it. Also, stop eating Dairy and Wheat. These glue containing substances cause the body to produce HCL.

i normally use Rolaids extra strength, but when that dosen't work (or it isn't available) a glass of milk always does the trick.
of course, if you mean PERMANENTLY get rid of it, you'll probably need a prescription drug like Prevacid or Prilosec, which reduce the amount of stomach acid you produce, thus preventing heartburn.

Gaviscon is the only thing that worked for me. If you don't have that ginger ale sometimes helps or drinking a cup of "hot" tea with ginger in it.( Also good for an upset stomach.)

Stop eating foods that cause it & don't lie down afterwards. Foods that usually create heartburn are spicy foods & lots of carbonation.
