♡I usually prefer "fugu" (blow fish) sashimi. (Raw fugu-"fugu sashi") It's very thinly sliced and absolutely delicious. (I live in Japan.) In my opinion it's the best way to enjoy "fugu". Fugu karaage, deep fried is excellent as well. They are my favorites. (*^o^*) There are many ways you can eat it though, fugu sashimi, fugu karaage, fugu nabe, fugu nigiri...

In Japan a "fugu chef" must have a license/certificate to be able to prepare and serve fugu. They must be skilled in the correct procedures for cleaning, preparing and serving fugu. Not just anyone can serve fugu! You should try it, it's delicious. Hope this helps!♡

It's all absolutely true, about fugu chefs needing a special license, and that you have to eat the fish carefully!! The whole fish isn't poisonous of course, but you need an expert to remove the evil bits without contaminating the rest of the meat!

But they can't stop people from CATCHING the little beggers, and when they DO, they usually prepare the damn thing at home...!!

Then they often get a brief mention on the news - not their FULL 15 minutes of fame, but it's all they're going to get now that they're DEAD!!

I think it's only a certain part of the fish that's poisonous and it requires a highly skilled chef to remove it and prepare the fish safely for eating. That's why it's considered a gourmet dish.

I've had it as sashimi, nigiri sushi, and in nabe. I would say the taste is nothing special, actually a pretty bland fish and the texture is a bit like shark to me. However, you do feel the little bit of tetrodotoxin present in the flesh. It gives you kind of a tingle on your lips, tongue, and face. Fun to try once, but not worth the price in my opinion.

The poisonous parts are cut out before it's cooked. It's supposed to be really good, a delicacy.
