We just don't want to slaughter living creatures, animals in particular speaking of vegetarians. We don't slaughter the mother tree when eating an apple; an apple is supposed to be eaten - a smart nature's trick how to get the seeds into the soil far from the mother tree, so that the species spreads wide.
Do you eat meat btw? If you do, why? I'm a little tired of being asked why I don't eat meat like if the meat eating was a norm just because a slight majority does it.. tired of the never-ending justifying..

A fruit is vegetarian because even though it fills the function of an ovary, it is made out of plant matter rather than animal flesh.

because trees make fruits with the intention for the fruit to be eaten and the seed to come out the other end of someone that lives in nature. then the new seeds have a nice, fertile place to grow.

The theory and practice behind Vegetarinaism is 'not eating the meat of a "killed" animal'. We do not wish to harm another inhabitant of this earth for our pleasure and gain. We do not wish to kill anyone. A fruit is a product. Its not the flesh of a killed animal. Unless you wish to be extreme and say this is the child of that particular plant we are eating! I am a Buddhist, and this is how we have put into practice what has been taught us.

You're confused by the term "ovary", which is used as an incorrect reference in your question. A true ovary is, as you know, the organ which contains the female eggs, or ova in mammals.

Reminds me of what I read some place. It goes " I am a vegetarian not because I love animals. I am a vegetarian because I hate plants".

A fruit is vegetarian because it's not meat... it doesn't mean it's not a living thing

Because it's not an animal. Vegetarians avoid animal flesh.

'ovary' does not mean 'meat'.
Just because (female) animals have ovaries does not mean that ovaries = meat.
