Curious is correct. The left main is traditionally called the widow maker because it is a larger feeder artery to nearly the entire left side of the heart (the side that pumps blood throughout your entire body). One of the arteries it feeds is the LAD (left anterior descending).

Left main. The main bloodflow the heart muscle branches off from that artery. Unless your are in the presence of a cardiothoracic surgeon, you better hope it does't clot hence the name widow maker.

I had a CT scan of my heart to check for coronary calcium. My score for the LAD was 31.59. All the other arteries were 0.00. My Dr. wants me to take a statin med but I'm scared of statins, I exercise 3,4 times a week and I'm not over weight. I'm a 64 yr. old female with no health problems .
