There are two kinds of angina.
1- Angina which is refered to throat infection and specially tonsil infection mostly caused by streptococci. This kind of infection is mostly seen in young people and is associated by sore throat, fever, head ache, and enlarged lymph nodes in neck. this is an easy to treat situation with proper antibiotic.
2- Angina pectoris which means chest pain or most commonly feeling chest pressure due to the fact that heart muscle can not get enough oxygen. This disease is seen in middle age people with family history of coronary artery disease , high cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure, and history of smoking.
Which of these risk factor do you have?

Angina pectoris is a benign condition that can affect anybody no matter the age or condition of the person. It is not a disease that automatically leads to a heart attack. Although some people that experience angina do end up having a heart attack, its not related to the angina. The way to deal with angina is to settle yourself down and lay down for a few minutes when the chest pain starts. If it stops, then that is how you know that is is angina and not a heart attack. Angina usually starts upon physical exertion and it goes away after rest. It is not a disease, and it is not going to kill you. I suggest going on a low-cholesterol diet (whether your overweight or not) and start doing a little excercise each day, gradually building yourself up to more and more. Your heart is a muscle that needs excercise to act properly. Those are your options. Dont worry about it much, angina is not a death sentence. Im sure youll be fine.
ps.......angina does not happen from a throat infection. Go to a cardiologist if your concerned and have further testing....sounds like your doc is a quack.

Angina is in no way related to a severe throat infection unless you have strep throat that has caused a heart inflammation that can cause angina like pain. If this is the case then you should be on anti-inflamatories and possibly antibiotics. If the glands around your throat are not allowing for proper air passage you need to have surgery to remove them (those glands are called tonsils) and are removed safely every day. If you are having difficulty breathing and chest pain you need to go straight to the Emergency room to be checked out.

Angina is NOT a benign condition and it indicates (as a rather late indicator) that your heart is getting inadequate oxygen supply either because (in simple terms) not enough pumping, not enough blood, or not enough oxygen.
Having said that, although anything is possible, it is extremely unlikely that as an 18 year old you are having angina - especially if you have never had heart problems before (like being born with heart defect).
A more likely possibility is pleurisy (inflammation around the lungs) or pericarditis (inflammation of the bag around your heart) with a probable viral infection (throat infection). What you really need to do is speak with your physician to clarify what he/she told you.
Listen carefully and ask questions - bring someone along if you need to. I suspect you have half the story and now you are worrying yourself to death...which is pretty silly.

one of your problems is, you have to stop worrying so much, that sets off the angina.
I don't know much about it either then that my mom has something to help control it but not cure it.
The one thing my mom has to do it avoid stress and worrying so much, or it is triggered off with chest pain, high blood pressure (face turns beet red) body shakes and shortness of breathe, when you feel stressed or worried do something that you enjoy, my mom has ready to go a mixed 60's up beat cd that I made for her, so when it hits her she turns the music up and starts dancing or singing

As a physician, I suspect your doctor was referring to herpangina---an illness caused by a virus, characterized by small blister-like bumps or ulcers that appear in the mouth, usually in the back of throat or the roof of the mouth, often with a high fever. The most common viruses that cause herpangina include the coxsackie virus and echovirus.
