No it is not necessary. It's the old story of too many fingers in the pot and half of them don't know what they are talking about.
A balance diet is only eating the right propotions
of everything rather then making a pig out of one self. A variety of different food items each day and not the same thing day after day which many do (potatoes is an excellent example). The most disturbing thing you hear from too many today is: "I don't like that". I still can't visualize how anyone can say that without trying something different before they say that. Staying away from the Fast Food places is a hard thing to do but almost a must if trying to stay on a balance diet. Once in a while as a treat to yourself is okay, but not more then once in a week or two or even three. Just stay away from fatty foods, eat something different moderately every day and watch the how your calories level out to a normal number in no time. Mainly... don't over eat. Eat items such as rice (without the butter) with Soy Sauce, Pasta without the butter...etc... Like Drugs... just say no, I'm going to eat right... and do it.

Balance diet is a combination of fruits, veggies, whole grains, nuts, calcium, and protein throughout your day. Normally, something should be eaten in it's portion size, every 3-4 hours. It keeps the metabolism stable which won't result in weight gain or too much weight loss. You can always feel free to eat something like a cookie or something every once in a while too, as long as it's still one serving, and taken as a small meal (or in some cases, a snack) following the time schedule.

It's not "necessary" to have green leafy veggies everyday b/c you can take a different veggy instead if you want. But every other day or so, is good. Vary your meals and snacks.
